Our Story

Discover our history.

Our Museum

The Wells Fire Museum opened its doors in 2023, repurposing the Wells Branch Fire Station that closed in 2020. Visitors will find fire apparatus from 1900’s – 1950’s and equipment from the late 1800’s to the present. We also have artifacts, including: Ladies’ Auxiliaries memorabilia supporting early volunteer firefighters, photos of historic and recent fires in the Wells-Ogunquit area, and activities for children. T-shirts, hats, and decals are available for purchase.

Our History

Although the Wells Branch Fire Association was established in 1947, it did not have a facility until 1953 when the Town of Wells agreed to lease the old Division #16 Schoolhouse to them for 99 years as a fire station. Until that time, meetings were held in the Community Hall, the church, and members’ homes. The town gave money in 1953 so the Association could turn the schoolhouse into a fire station.

Our Partners

The museum would not be possible if it wasn't for the support of our four sister organizations:

  • Highpine Fire Association
  • Ogunquit Fire Department
  • Wells Beach Hose Company
  • Wells Corner Hose Company
